Reiki and Healing Touch are energy healing techniques that use gentle touch on and above the body to clear, balance and revitalize the human energy field to promote physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being. Energy medicine complements conventional health care, and can be used alone or in collaboration with other approaches to health and healing.
What to Expect during a Treatment
Clients recline on a massage table fully clothed while the practitioner lightly places her hands on and just above the body to send healing energy throughout the client's energy system. Clients often feel a warm energetic vibration from the practitioner's hands. Sometimes they drift into sleep or have pleasant visual experiences. Afterwards, clients report a sense of calm and well being, increased clarity and energy, and relief from pain.
About Healing Touch
Healing Touch was founded by Navy nurse Janet Mentgen, RN, in 1989. Healing Touch practitioners use a variety of techniques to address specific issues and bring their client's energy into balance. Certification in Healing Touch usually takes two to three years of training, including five levels of curriculum-based classes; a year's mentorship with a registered nurse; independent study of quantum physics, anatomy, energy medicine/holism and ethics; and other requirements.
Reiki was founded in the 1920s by Dr. Mikao Usui. It is based on the Japanese concept that "ki" (life force energy) flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "ki" is weak, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is strong, we are more capable of being healthy and happy. Reiki practitioners receive a series of "attunements" from a Reiki Master that enable them to flow universal energy through their hands to their client's energy field to increase the client's "ki" to promote maximum well being.
